Out here

Out here in the garden where I sleep under the sun
I dream away from the world around me
and I close my eyes against the storm.
And I swore myself to be a rebel for what I love
but out here the wind’s a whisper
and the sky looks way too high above.

Maybe once I was a mad one, once I lived for what I did
and I burned for my own living,
I was mad about seeing with my heart
to find a glimpse of truth beside old lies
for not to be another critic
in a world that seemed like a gallery of arts.

But out here there are walls behind every garden fence.
Out here is propaganda and out here there is offense.
This ringing in my ears is getting louder than before
again it breaks the silence and is knocking on my door.
Oh, lord.

Out here is a dim light flickering in the opposite room,
there’s a battle that is raging
and the waters keep on growing.
So get out here let’s be Noah, build an ark of wooden planks!
We sink like stones, like Dylan said:
„The times they’re a-changin‘“ back.

Well, here’s the promised land, there’s old American Dream.
You can dream your rags to riches there,
you can get caught up in this scene.
Jesus was a Mexican, Aida a girl from Syria
they found a dried down river
where once their ships were sent to sail.

And they found out here there are walls behind every garden fence.
Again there’s propaganda and again there is offense.
This screaming in their ears was getting too loud to bear.
Again it broke the silence and was charging up the stairs.
Oh, lord.

Out here in the garden I can’t get no sleep in the sun,
can’t dream away the world around me,
how could I close my eyes against the storm?
It’s time to part the sea, it’s time to tear down all these walls
and it’s time to break the silence
when another rabble-rouser talks.

And out here will be no nations, no borders and no walls,
in the passports there’ll be written “Earth“ as land of birth.
Out here will be freedom and out here will be no harm.
The tree will fall but new seed will grow and the restless will be calm.

Poetisch die Gegenwart gestalten. Gedanken zum Song von Paul Heidegger. Siljarosa Schletterer

The song uses HIM to get itself sung
